Abstract and Styalised figurative paintings

My abstract work was initially inspired by the random marks created by the years of wear and tear on the pavements of our villages, towns and cities. Using a restricted palette, different for each painting, I paint intuitively, layering, wet into wet, scraping back, adding taking away, reaching a stage when I know I must leave the work to dry returning when the work is dry. Layering of paint and marks continues until I can see a balance of composition, colour, a completeness of all factors. It is an exciting and rewarding process, I love it! My styalised figurative work is a perfect foil to my abstract work, I know from the beginning where each is going, while I produce a painting with an obvious likeness to my subject, I allow exaggeration and distortion, producing a quirky, fun and complimentary image of my subject.
