Nick Carter BA (Hons) MCSD MCIPS
1969 : Nick graduated with Honours in Three Dimensional Design from Loughborough College of Art & Design and has been working in Art and Design ever since.
1970’s to 1980’s : Designer for Central Government, Westminster, designed the new office furniture and interiors for the House of Commons and House of Lords, furniture for Kew Public Records Office and the external seating for Trafalgar Square and the South Bank. Lectured at the Royal College of Art and Southend College of Art. Deputy Group Leader, Furniture & Graphic Design Section, Essex County Council specialising in educational furniture and interiors. Design Consultant to Fletcher Mayfield and British Petroleum. Nick also developed his ceramics designs during this period.
1980’s to 1990’s : Principal & Chief Designer at the Department for Education (DFE) developing ideas for educational furniture and interiors. Left Department for Education (DFE) and started Educational Design Group (EDG) specialising in the design, logistics and project management for educational buildings. Contributor to the Times Educational Supplement, News International and was Editor of Managing Schools Today. Undertook a degree level course at North London University in logistics, project management and contractual law. In 1998 he moved to Suffolk from Essex.
2013 to 2016 : After 20 years EDG closed, Nick opened his Studio and concentrated full time on his art work, becoming a member of Suffolk Open Studios in 2014.
2016 to date : Nick launched art classes to be held throughout the year for all abilities. Crouch House Studio is for individual/small group tuition while the Peninsula Art Group meets most Wednesday mornings at Chelmondiston or on location. He also gives talks to Art Clubs on developing and progressing ideas in Art & Design which encourages budding artists.
Nick has exhibited his work in London, Manchester, throughout Suffolk and Brittany.
