Suffolk Open Studios is a community of artists and makers working across the county, offering opportunities to exhibit, connect with other creatives, and be part of a supportive, welcoming network. Whether you’re established, emerging, or returning to your work after a pause, joining can be a meaningful step in your creative journey.

Entries for Suffolk Open Studios 2026 are now open, with applications closing on 31 January. There’s plenty of time to explore what membership offers and decide if it feels right for you.

Sometimes a resolution isn’t about doing more – it’s about taking one thoughtful step forward.

Michelle Watson is a Suffolk-based figurative painter whose work explores the modern female experience with power and sensitivity. In her paintings, reality and abstraction sit side by side. Classical figuration meets contemporary mark-making, and subtle brushstrokes shape isolated female forms that feel both strong and vulnerable.

Her work captures beauty, emotion and the hidden pressures carried through past, present and future. Michelle’s thoughtful approach has led to solo exhibitions and group shows across the country, with her pieces held in private collections in the UK and abroad.

Working with both traditional silversmithing and recycled fine silver clay, she captures the delicate textures of seed heads, petals and organic forms, transforming them into pure silver details that feel both timeless and contemporary.

Helen’s philosophy centres on working sustainably, using eco and recycled precious metals and ethically sourced gemstones wherever possible. Her work is thoughtful, tactile and deeply rooted in the landscapes that inspire her.

Clay, colour and character come together in the joyful work of Nick Walker, a Suffolk Open Studios member whose pottery and printmaking share an unmistakable sense of play.

Nick moves between clay and ink, letting each discipline influence the other. His ceramic pieces are decorated with a printmaker’s eye, using embossed patterns and colourful glazes to create contrast and personality. From mugs and bowls to tiles, dishes and quirky little creatures, his work is designed to make people smile.

Alongside his ceramics, Nick creates bold, graphic linoprints and cards, carved and layered to form strong, simple imagery with real impact.

A life steeped in painting and a deep connection t

A life steeped in painting and a deep connection to the natural world defines the work of Suffolk artist Michael Vincent. Born in Bury St Edmunds, he began drawing at the age of four and spent his childhood cycling through the countryside with his easel strapped to the back of his bike. Those early plein air days shaped a lifelong devotion to capturing landscape, light and place.

Working in gouache and oils, Michael paints with a sensitivity informed by decades of observing nature in Suffolk, Finland, New Zealand and Somerset. His canvases reflect not only the beauty of land and sea but also an awareness of how fragile these environments are.

After many years teaching, exhibiting and writing, Michael has now returned to Kessingland, where he has re-established his studio and continues to paint the landscapes that first inspired him. His work carries a sense of history, emotion and lived experience that makes each piece quietly compelling.
