I am a self-taught contemporary artist living in Suffolk, painting still life, landscapes and florals.
I celebrate in paint the beauty of the ordinary and everyday. Those precious small moments of whimsey and charm often unnoticed and overlooked. The mundane and domestic. The daily walk and flowers from the garden.
This is where I see and feel the underlying beautiful narrative of life, whether busy and messy or quiet and still. I notice and respond to the seemingly insignificant as precious, once in a life time moments. The pleasure being in the ordinary and familiar. The humdrum necessity of it all.
I love painting these vignettes of simply being in this world.
I don't plan much. I create intuitively, from my imagination, until the painting chooses to reveal itself. This process leads to the build up of many layers. A process resulting in a beautifully textured surface full of past ideas, scratches, scrapes, washes, marks and colour.
This way of painting makes me really happy. It's a free-flowing process where the painting decides what it wants to be. It's my way of capturing the joy and spontaneity that comes from being creative in the moment.
