I am a psychotherapist whose love of ceramics extended to collecting until I attended a pottery taster day at Camden Arts Centre with my sister, a printmaker, led to a passion for clay.
I worked in the arts and media before retraining as a psychotherapist and after a lifetime of living in London moved to Suffolk just over a year ago to be closer to family, develop a garden and spend time by the sea.
I believe that working with clay imitates the therapeutic system of repeat and repair. Despite all planning, cracks will inevitably appear in pots as in life - we can either cover them over, celebrate them (as in Kintsugi) or learn from the imperfections and move on. The unpredictability of what might emerge from the kiln reflects the uncertainties of life - the joys, disappointments and potential for beauty too.
I am pleased to be creating a hub with my printmaker sister, Amanda Clayton and her husband, woodworker Neil Clayton, who together work under the collective of Clayton Creatives. Their superior experience (and talent) will help mask my lack of it at Threshing Barn. As a hub we are united in our shared love of natural forms and the inspiration of Suffolk’s sea, land and sky scapes.
