At the heart of my practice is connection: between past and present, surface and light, artist and viewer. My original artworks are inspired by places with history, atmosphere, and stories to tell. As I paint, I imagine the lives held within buildings and landscapes: the marks left by time, weather, and countless human interactions.
I’m drawn to the details of everyday life, a weathered wall, carved stone, worn steps, fragments of conversation, the rhythm of a walk. These small observations often become the starting point for a piece. My work reflects an emotional response to a place rather than a literal depiction, capturing mood, memory, and essence.
Travel and my local environment both strongly influence my art, resulting in a diverse range of subjects. I paint what I feel a connection to, urban spaces, historic architecture, and landscapes that evoke nostalgia and quiet intensity. Each subject guides my choice of style and materials; for me, one always informs the other.
I work in both colour and greyscale and enjoy pushing the possibilities of mixed media. My work combines ink, wax, charcoal, watercolour, and occasionally collage. I use dip pen and ink for its precision and timeless quality, charcoal for texture and versatility, and watercolour for its luminosity and unpredictability. Experimentation is a vital part of my process.
Through sketching, photography, and written notes, I document the spaces I encounter. Back in the studio, these studies, along with memory and imagination, evolve into original artworks that suggest a sense of place rather than describe it exactly.
