After studying at the Art School in Birmingham, I qualified as a teacher of Art and Design and went on to teach in Birmingham, Cambridge, and Suffolk. Alongside my teaching career, I have continued to develop my own creative practice, working primarily in paint and, from time to time, in textiles. My work has been exhibited in galleries across Suffolk and in Birmingham.
During Covid I moved to the countryside and set up a new studio in Walsham le Willows. Living more closely with the landscape has deepened my concern for its fragility as it becomes increasingly affected by urban development and pollutants. This awareness has shaped my recent work, which aims to draw attention to what we stand to lose.
In response, I began creating “Art Pins”—wearable art pieces that combine traditional embroidery techniques with natural fibres such as silk, linen, and cotton. These small works act as reminders of the beauty and vulnerability of the rural environment. My paintings, which also explore this connection to place, will be included in the exhibition.
