I've always loved the subject of still life, from Cezanne and Matisse, to contemporary still life painters such as Emma Williams, Debbie George, Sophie Harding and Charlotte Hardy.
I am fascinated by the shape and tonal qualities of ceramics, glass, flowers and fruit. I often draw from objects I have collected over many years, for example, a wonderful old blue jug from a pottery in Yorkshire, to vintage finds, and Moroccan and Scandinavian glassware.
Currently I work mostly in acrylic, but I also enjoy making rapid sketches using pen and ink, coloured pencils and oil pastels.
My practice is also informed by an awareness and deep love for the history of art, which I studied at university. And over the past few years I’ve grown increasingly fascinated by the work of the St Ives artists, and of course the incredible colour and light in the work of Winifred Nicholson.
