I’m Sammy, a Bury St Edmunds / Norwich -based potter and founder of Mud Hub CIC, a not-for-profit community pottery studio. My work spans both wheel throwing and hand-building, creating functional and decorative ceramics pieces that are tactile and made to be used.
I’m drawn to form and texture — visible throwing lines, curves and soft edges that celebrate the handmade process. I make mugs, bowls and everyday tableware designed to feel grounding in your hands and bring character to daily rituals. Alongside functional pottery, I explore simple handbuilt pottery that lean into a more delicate side such as jewellery and playful forms inspired by working with children. My glazes are often experimental, from stoney mattes to runny gloss, I find this gives each piece its own unique personality.
Clay, for me, is about connection as much as craft. My practice sits between contemporary ceramics and community pottery, rooted in the belief that handmade objects carry energy, story and memory. Through Mud Hub, I teach pottery classes and workshops that make pottery accessible to all abilities, championing creativity, wellbeing and the joy of making.
My work reflects my love of tactile design, honest materials and the beauty of things made by hand.
