Biography/Details

Ruth’s work responds to the landscapes and edgy, vulnerable nature of Suffolk's coast.

Quiet and a sense of remoteness and solitude are conveyed in her contemplative work in watercolour and oils. Joy, passion and conflict also work their way in through her deep awareness of our human state developed during her 30 years as a psychotherapist.

It can be daunting to stay with the unpredictable and often frustrating process that eventually will reveal the form a piece will take. W H Vanstone in 'Love's Endeavour, Love's Expense" (p47) describes the creative process as. 'precariously poised between success and failure.’ Ruth believes her former career developed her capacity to wait in this uncertainty.

The onlooker is invited to relate to what they see in her largely abstract pieces, through what they feel, and through imagination.

Her watercolour work, developed over 10 years, has been received with enthusiasm as innovative and pushing boundaries, and has achieved success in national contemporary competitions, being exhibited at both The Mall Galleries and Bankside Gallery, London. Her work is collected internationally in Australia, USA, Germany and The Netherlands and has been successful in the Sunday Times Watercolour and Royal Watercolour Society Contemporary Competitions.

Alongside work for galleries, Ruth selects pieces for her ongoing retrospective sale, making it her goal to make her work available to those who love it, by flexible payment and loan options when possible.

Ruth offers sessions for artists interested in reflecting on their process.
