Karen Glanvill is a ceramicist and printmaker crea Karen Glanvill is a ceramicist and printmaker creating beautifully functional pieces in stoneware and porcelain. Using both the wheel and slab construction, she crafts bowls, mugs, jugs and porcelain jewellery – everyday items designed to be both used and loved.

Originally from the US, Karen has lived and taught in the UK for many years – including time as Ceramic Specialist and Art Technician at Ipswich School. Now based in Felsham, she works from a new studio in a village with a rich pottery heritage, taking inspiration from the surrounding landscape and the natural forms encountered on her walks and cycling adventures.

Karen opened her studio for Suffolk Open Studios on 21/22 June, welcoming visitors to see her process, tools and finished work. If you missed it, you can still follow her creative journey online.

Brigitte Girling paints joyful, semi-abstract work Brigitte Girling paints joyful, semi-abstract works that burst with colour, texture and personality. Inspired by the tangled wildness of her Suffolk garden and the countryside beyond, her paintings evolve intuitively – layer by layer – with no strict plan, just imagination and emotion guiding the way.

Working in acrylic and mixed media, Brigitte builds up beautifully textured surfaces through washes, marks, scratches and playful brushstrokes. The result? Bold, quirky landscapes and still lifes that radiate warmth and happiness – art designed to make you smile and brighten your space.

Brigitte welcomed visitors into her studio during the first two weekends of Suffolk Open Studios, but if you missed it, you can still explore her work online and follow along for new creations and upcoming events.

Clare Gaylard creates intricate, expressive glass Clare Gaylard creates intricate, expressive glass sculptures using flamework – the tabletop version of glassblowing. Sculpting molten Murano glass in the flame, she transforms raw material into vibrant, wearable art inspired by people, objects, stories and the beauty of the small.

With a background in silversmithing, jewellery, curating and teaching, Clare brings two decades of experience to her practice. Every single element is made by hand in her Suffolk studio, where she celebrates colour, pattern, texture and light through glass.

Although Clare has now completed her Suffolk Open Studios openings for June, you can still explore her work online or in galleries across East Anglia – including Designer Makers 21 in Diss and Craftco in Southwold.

Robert Garnham is a Suffolk-born painter and draug Robert Garnham is a Suffolk-born painter and draughtsman whose work explores the expressive power of oil, charcoal and graphite. From atmospheric figure drawings to richly observed landscapes, Robert moves between classical technique and contemporary experimentation – always guided by a search for meaning beyond words.

After a long career in graphic design, he now works full-time from his purpose-built Ipswich studio, reconnecting with the creative instincts that first took shape at Ipswich Art School. His subjects vary – chosen freely, intuitively – whether drawn from the human form or the natural world around him.

Robert’s studio will be open for one final weekend as part of Suffolk Open Studios, 28/29 June. Come and explore the work, the space, and the quiet intensity that underpins his distinctive practice.
