Working under the name Rain-E-Days, Suffolk-based Working under the name Rain-E-Days, Suffolk-based sculptor Peter creates striking contemporary pieces that draw on the forms and rhythms of the natural world – with a thoughtful twist. His work explores not just the external beauty of nature, but how we relate to each other and our inner selves.

From garden sculptures to smaller indoor artworks, each piece is crafted by hand using mild or stainless steel, often combined with wood or natural stone for contrast and grounding. Whether you're looking for a statement feature or a subtle detail, Peter’s pieces are designed to complement and enhance their surroundings.

Inspired by colour, nature and the world around he Inspired by colour, nature and the world around her, Sally Procner works across a variety of media – from oils and pastels to inks, acrylics and watercolour. Her artistic journey has taken shape gradually over the years, reignited by life drawing classes and membership of the Eye Arts Guild, where she continues to evolve and experiment.

Lately, she’s been exploring pen and ink drawing using blind and semi-blind contour techniques – creating lively, expressive illustrations which are then hand-coloured with watercolour to striking effect.

From portraits to still life to quirky ink sketches, Sally’s work reflects a love of creativity and a willingness to keep learning.

Working primarily in digital print and paper, Cres Working primarily in digital print and paper, Cressida Pye explores perception, optical illusion and the relationship between figure and ground. Her practice often uses geometric forms in monochrome, creating a surprising sense of depth and movement within two-dimensional space.

With a background in jewellery, silversmithing and design, her work has a bold structural quality – yet it balances this with a lightness and calm. Since 2018, she has focused fully on her passion for printmaking, with solo and group exhibitions in London, New York and beyond.

Based in rural Suffolk, Jennifer Phillips creates Based in rural Suffolk, Jennifer Phillips creates textured semi-abstract paintings that capture more than just the look of a place – they aim to convey how the landscape feels. Working in acrylic, Jennifer layers paint to build depth and texture, drawing on the memory of walking the coast and countryside, listening to the sounds of nature and observing shifting light.

Her practice began with pet portraiture and a teaching career in art, but today her focus is firmly on the Suffolk landscape. Each canvas grows into a sensory record of her experience outdoors – not simply a scene to view, but one to step into.

Follow Suffolk Open Studios to keep discovering artists inspired by Suffolk’s natural beauty.

Born in Sri Lanka and living in Suffolk since the Born in Sri Lanka and living in Suffolk since the early 1990s, Shanta Perera is a figurative artist whose practice spans landscapes, marine scenes and portraiture. Working mainly in oils, watercolour and pencil, Shanta’s focus is on capturing the fleeting, transformative effect of light – how it alters the atmosphere of a place and infuses it with mood.

Suffolk’s coast and countryside are a continual source of inspiration, but Shanta also draws on time spent in Languedoc, Sri Lanka and summers spent sailing between Essex and the Mediterranean. Each location leaves its mark in subtle shifts of tone and palette.

In recent years, Shanta has turned increasing attention to portraiture, experimenting with graphite, coloured pencils, and pen and ink alongside life drawing. The result is a body of work that feels both deeply observed and sensitive to its subject – whether human or landscape.

Miniature houses, fragile landscapes, and stories Miniature houses, fragile landscapes, and stories waiting to be told – that’s the world of Suffolk artist Betty Pepper. Using only damaged and discarded books, she transforms them into intricate paper sculptures that explore both storytelling and the human condition.

Her ongoing series Living on the Edge is inspired by poetry, overheard fragments of conversation and her concerns about coastal erosion – a theme close to home since moving to Suffolk over twenty years ago. Every piece is eco-conscious, reusing materials that would otherwise be pulped or lost, and every house seems to carry its own personality, sometimes melancholic, sometimes jubilant, often just a little bit mysterious.

At once delicate and thought-provoking, Betty’s sculptures invite viewers to pause and reflect – on stories, memory, and on what it means for all of us to live a little “on the edge.”

Suffolk-born photographer Christiaan Partridge has Suffolk-born photographer Christiaan Partridge has a gift for capturing the shifting moods of the East Anglian coast. His work ranges from sweeping coastal landscapes to intimate macro details, often using long exposures to slow time and highlight subtle beauty.

Alongside his coastal studies, Christiaan also explores aerial perspectives with drone photography, offering fresh ways of seeing familiar places. His practice is deeply personal too – photography as both art and therapy, a way of appreciating stillness and presence in the moment.

Recently awarded a First Class Honours Degree in Photography and an ARPS distinction from the Royal Photographic Society, Christiaan continues to develop and share his work through prints, books and exhibitions.
