Ruth McCabe’s work is rooted in her relationship Ruth McCabe’s work is rooted in her relationship with landscape – particularly the quiet, often fragile edges of the Suffolk coast. Her contemporary abstracts in oil, watercolour and collage explore the emotional undercurrents of place, shaped not just by light and line, but by stillness, solitude, and the inner world we bring to what we see.

A former psychotherapist, Ruth brings a rare depth of awareness to her creative practice. Her process is intuitive and patient – staying with the uncertainty until form and feeling begin to align. In her words, “The onlooker is invited to relate to what they see, through what they feel.”

Her watercolours have gained national recognition, with work exhibited at the Mall Galleries and Bankside Gallery in London, and collected internationally.

Ruth is also exhibiting selected pieces at the Holton Lodge Barn Late Summer Exhibition – a wonderful opportunity to experience her work in person.

Amanda Marks brings her deep love of wildlife and Amanda Marks brings her deep love of wildlife and storytelling into her vibrant felt and pastel artworks – each piece celebrating the magic of the natural world. Often accompanied by poems or short narratives, her creations invite you to pause, look closely, and feel a little wonder.

With a life shaped by adventure – from paddling a canoe down the Congo to crossing India’s living root bridges – Amanda’s travels have long influenced her creativity. Now based in Otley, she draws inspiration from her Suffolk surroundings, creating tactile wool paintings and vivid soft pastel pieces that reflect her reverence for nature and the wild.

You’ll find her work on display as part of the Late Summer Exhibition at Holton Lodge Barn – open today and well worth a visit.

Living near the Suffolk coast, Ruth Lyne draws dai Living near the Suffolk coast, Ruth Lyne draws daily inspiration from her surroundings – the shifting skies over Felixstowe, the winding paths by the Deben and Orwell. Her work doesn’t aim to replicate these scenes but instead expresses how they feel – through texture, tone and movement.

Working with acrylics on canvas, paper and wood, Ruth paints intuitively using scrapers and spreaders rather than brushes. She’s recently begun layering gelli-plate monoprints of seedheads and stems into her work – adding delicacy and rhythm to her already expressive mark-making.

After years as a jeweller and glass artist, painting has become Ruth’s main creative outlet. Her work is currently on show at the Holton Lodge Barn Late Summer Exhibition – a perfect place to discover it up close.
