I am a Suffolk-based artist working primarily with watercolor and charcoal, but I enjoy experimenting with all media including using recycled objects.

Experiencing new places fuels my creative process, driven by my emotional response to the spaces around me, urban or rural, home or abroad. If environments are colorful and chaotic, so is my artwork. In contrast, my love of mountains and serene countryside inspire more tranquil pieces.

I sketch, photograph, and annotate the spaces I encounter, using these studies and my memories to create artwork that reflects the essence of a place rather than its exact details.

I am captivated by watercolor’s unpredictability and how you can build transparent layers that create depth and contrast while preserving the paper’s glow. The immediacy and versatility of charcoal interests me, I often enhance its atmospheric qualities with subtle colour.

In my newest work, I’ve been exploring the relationship between human habitation and natural spaces. I enjoy the challenge of focusing close-up on manmade structures, capturing the textures of corrosion created by exposure to time. I also look at the bigger picture and how those structures fit in the landscape and how that effects the natural. As I paint, I imagine the history and stories of the places I depict, and the people who inhabited them, inviting viewers to do the same.
