My name is John, and I am a metalworker and sculptor based in rural Suffolk, near the coast. I work primarily with steel to create sculptural forms that are informed by flowers, and other radial patterns found in nature.
My practice focuses on the structure of floral forms rather than literal representation. I am interested in symmetry, repetition, and the way natural forms radiate and repeat. These patterns are translated into metal through a careful, hands-on process that balances control with responsiveness to the material. The resulting works combine organic variation, feel, and texture with a clear geometric order.
The landscape of coastal Suffolk strongly influences my work. The openness of the environment, changing light, and exposure to weather inform both the scale and physical presence of the sculptures. Working in metal allows me to explore contrast: delicacy and strength, movement and stability, precision and variation.
Through my work, I aim to create sculptures that encourage awareness of natural pattern and structure. By reinterpreting floral and radial forms in a durable material, I seek to highlight the underlying order and quiet beauty found in creation.
