My paintings, collages and drawings are abstract but the structure underlying my work is the human form. I also reference natural objects reminiscent of human anatomy such as stones, bones, driftwood and other detritus.
I work with paint and a range of art materials in an intuitive and direct way. I like to experience images evolving and cross fertilizing while working on several pieces of work simultaneously. Textured surfaces build up as one image is submerged by another. Experiment and accident are integral to my method. My working process is archaeological: I excavate primordial forms and shapes which relate to the human body both on a physical and subconscious level. I want my completed work to feel fresh and alive.
I have painted, drawn and experimented with art materials throughout my working life as an art teacher in Lincoln, London and Suffolk and have worked from my home studio in Suffolk for many years. My work has been exhibited in Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, Aldeburgh, Halesworth and at Gregynog - University of Wales.
