Suffolk Open Studios is an artist collective. This means that the organisation is run by its members. In fact, by becoming a member, you have agreed to play an active role in the organisation (it’s part of the Member Responsibilities you signed up to).
Often members are happy to volunteer but reluctant to join the Committee. Non-Committee volunteers are an important resource for SOS. If that sounds like you, read on to learn how you can help – and no, you don’t have to join the Committee or sacrifice precious hours when you could be in the studio.
Of course, for governance best practice and insurance purposes there does need to be an elected Committee of Officers. However the day-to-day, smaller operational activities can be easily carried out by teams of volunteers. This is where you come in. We have come up with a list of microtasks (below), several of which can be completed in around 10 minutes. If you can, please sign up for at least one – more if you are able. New tasks may be added at certain points in the year so please come back and check every now and then.
While it would be helpful all round if you could agree to carry out your selected task, whenever it is required, until September 2027, this is not essential. Members are free to join or leave teams during the course of the year but for the sake of continuity and stability a longer-term commitment would be preferable.
Whether you have limited time, or feel you have no useful skills (you really do you know), there is sure to be something below that you can help with.
Thank you!
