Welcome to Suffolk Open Studios
2013 Open Studio Event - throughout the 5 weekends in June more than 90 of our artists are opening their studios to the public, giving you the opportunity to experience "behind the scenes" and find out where and how they produce their work and to discuss the inspiration behind it.
You will be able to view preliminary work, sketchbooks, work in progress and the processes involved, with some artists giving you demonstrations of their techniques and you may even be able to have a go yourself in a relaxed environment.
With both finished and unfinished work to browse, there is also the possibility of buying an original piece of artwork and many artists are willing to discuss commissions for unique pieces of work designed to your individual requirements.
Click on the Artists tab above to find which artists are open on which weekend, or download our 2013 Directory from the Directory page.
To help you to decide which artists to visit we have the Suffolk Open Studios Showcase Exhibition at Blackthorpe Barn, Roughham, near Bury St. Edmunds, IP30 9HZ. At this exhibition you will have the opportunity to see and purchase the work of all our current member artists. The exhibition runs from 18th to 27th May, entry is free and it is open each day from 11am until 5pm. On the Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holiday Monday of the exhibition there is a programme of artist's demonstrations, find out more on our Events Calendar.
A message from our Chairman
"Welcome to Suffolk Open studios 2013. To our visitors, I hope that you will be able to take every opportunity to visit our artists in their studios during June and find out what they do, how they do it and why. I know that you can be assured of a warm welcome and please don’t hesitate to ask questions; understanding art and artists is all part of the open studios experience. To our 2013 members, thank you for joining and for those taking part for the first time I am sure that you will enjoy the opportunity. Opening your studio creates a great opportunity for you to discuss your work with visitors who will have made a special effort to come and see you.
