Mita Higton – Colour, Texture and a Sense of Pla Mita Higton – Colour, Texture and a Sense of Place

Mita Higton’s mixed media paintings are vibrant, expressive and inspired by the East Anglian landscape. Layering watercolour, gouache, ink and pen with wildflowers, grasses, fabric and collage, her work captures the spontaneous beauty of nature.

Born in India, Mita brings a deep sense of colour and rhythm to her art. She began painting at 40 and has followed an intuitive, self-taught path ever since – creating striking, atmospheric pieces that evoke joy and curiosity.

Her work will be on display at the Suffolk Open Studios Summer Exhibition at Holton Lodge Barn, 21–31 August 2025.

Meet Dr Mary Heller – Abstract Impressionist Pai Meet Dr Mary Heller – Abstract Impressionist Painter

Mary Heller’s abstract impressionist paintings explore mood, memory and emotion – expressive responses to the world around her rather than precise representations.

Painting allows Mary to immerse herself in the creative process, where everyday concerns fall away. When the process feels too forced, she steps back, walks the dog, and returns with fresh perspective – a gentle rhythm that shapes her work.

You can see her art this summer at the Suffolk Open Studios Summer Exhibition at Holton Lodge Barn, 21–31 August 2025.

Follow her on Instagram at @maileymole to see more of her evolving practice.

Working in oils using techniques rooted in the Old Working in oils using techniques rooted in the Old Masters, Margaret Head captures the shifting light and moods of the East Anglian landscape in a way that feels timeless yet fresh.

From windswept skies to reflective shorelines, Meg’s work draws you in with atmosphere, depth and a sense of quiet contemplation. Inspired by plein air painting and grounded in a deep knowledge of traditional method, her pieces are both painterly and precise – where light leads the story.

Her work has been exhibited across England and the US, including last year’s well-received show at St Mary the Virgin in Dalham, where she returns later this year.

You can find out more and see her latest work at meghead.com or follow @megrhead on Instagram.

Don’t miss the next Suffolk Open Studios group exhibition at Holton Lodge this August – a great chance to explore more from Suffolk’s diverse and talented artists.

Angela Hall’s work is rooted in memory, emotion Angela Hall’s work is rooted in memory, emotion and a deep connection to the land. Using oils and cold wax, she creates richly textured paintings that respond to landscape with quiet strength and feeling.

Often inspired by her Lake District childhood and Suffolk surroundings, Angela paints scenes that draw you in – with paths that wind through trees and light that shifts gently across hills. Her process builds many delicate layers, scraped back to reveal hidden colour and depth.

Her recent work also touches on climate change and the fragility of the world we walk through. There's an honesty and care to her paintings that encourages reflection and stillness.

Follow her journey on Instagram at @angelajeanhall, and look out for Angela’s work at our next Suffolk Open Studios group exhibition at Holton Lodge this August – a celebration of creativity across the region.

Tina Hagley creates expressive abstract paintings, Tina Hagley creates expressive abstract paintings, drawings and collages that are rich with layered meaning. Her work often draws on natural forms – bones, driftwood, stones – objects that subtly echo the human body in shape or structure.

Working instinctively from her Suffolk studio, Tina builds up textured surfaces, lets accidents guide her, and excavates powerful biomorphic shapes from the layers beneath. The result is work that feels both ancient and immediate – raw, curious, and alive.

Her work has been exhibited in Ipswich, Norwich, Colchester, Aldeburgh, Halesworth and beyond. While she’s not currently showing in an open studio, you can discover more of her world at tinahagley.com or on Instagram at @tinahagleystudio.

Keep an eye out for our upcoming group exhibition at Holton Lodge later this summer – and enjoy continuing to explore the many creative voices that make the Suffolk art scene so exciting.

Rebecca’s work is full of light, layers, and sub Rebecca’s work is full of light, layers, and subtle humour. Whether painting in delicate egg tempera or experimenting with printmaking, she draws on daily life, her love of storytelling, and a deep appreciation for colour and pattern.

A member of the Royal Society of British Artists and a regular exhibitor at the Mall Galleries, Snape Maltings and beyond, Rebecca’s pieces have been described as “little gems” – and it’s easy to see why. Her art often blends personal reflection with broader themes, creating work that is both beautiful and thought-provoking.

You can often find her exhibiting with ArtCan, the Colchester Art Society, and as one of the driving forces behind the much-loved Heart of Suffolk exhibitions in Thorpe Morieux.

Follow her colourful journey at @rebeccaguyverart or visit rebeccaguyverart.com to discover more.
